Brightest Flashlights on the Market

Everybody needs a quality flashlight; there’s no question about it. How many times did you end up in complete darkness without a proper flashlight by your side? While people don’t often think about it, because it seems pretty irrelevant, buying a good flashlight can only have a positive influence in any situation.

However, finding a suitable model isn’t as easy as it seems. There are a ton of things to care about, especially if you’re looking for something specific. We have made a list of top five brightest flashlights on the market, take a look, and you might find an interesting model for yourself.

PeakPlus Super Bright LED Tactical Flashlight

People often think that finding a suitable flashlight isn’t a big deal. If you look at it from a different perspective, how hard could it be to find a decent flashlight? If you’re looking for a cost-efficient unit, the PeakPlus Super Bright LED would be a good choice. It has a set of basic functions, and also some additional ones. However, the most notable thing about this particular model is its affordable price.

Design:

As far as the design goes, it’s not much different from any other conventional flashlight. However, the things “under the hood” are what counts at the end of the day. Needless to say, this model has a pretty wide array of useful functions to offer. The first thing people notice is the high-powered brightness. In other words, you can illuminate the environment as if it’s day outside, with a single press of a button. The estimated LED lifespan is around 100000 hours, or in other words, over 11 years. As you can see, as long as you follow some maintenance rules and keep your unit in good condition, it should last for a long time.

Battery:

There are two types of batteries available for this flashlight. The first one is the 18650 lithium-ion battery, which is the recommended one. However, you will get a spare custom casing that can hold 3 AAA batteries and act as a substitution for the lithium ion one. People usually recommend using the lithium-ion battery because it ensures more power and a longer life.

Extra Feature:

One of the great things about this model is its zoom function. Although it sounds a bit peculiar for a flashlight to have a zoom function, it works pretty well. You can use the unit as a spotlight as well. All you have to do is fine-tune the zoom distance.

SOLARAY PRO ZX-1 Professional Series Flashlight

When it comes to professional LED flashlights, the Solaray Pro ZX-1 is one of the best choices you can make. In fact, many police squads across the United States use this model for combat training. It’s also ideal for self-defense, security patrols, sports, and more. One of the strongest sides of this particular model is its durability and the ability to withstand rough conditions. For example, the unit is water resistant, meaning you don’t have to worry about its performance under humid conditions whatsoever. It’s made from aircraft grade aluminum, which ensures durability and long life.

Design:

The design is pretty standard; there is nothing impressive about it. The unit has a built-in belt clip which comes in handy if you need to put the device away but still keep it close to you. Contrary to popular belief, this flashlight is pretty light. It weighs only around five ounces whereas some other models weigh up to ten or fifteen ounces. The zoom-in feature is also a pretty neat addition to an already versatile unit. You can focus on something by rotating the head of the flashlight clockwise. The zoom levels are from x1 up to x1500.

Battery:

As far as the batteries go, you’ll get two 18650 lithium ion batteries and a charger. People often forget to change the batteries, and if you buy low-quality ones, they can leak easily. However, these two lithium ion batteries are rechargeable, non-leaking, and most importantly – durable. The charger is a pretty simple device, all you have to do is put the batteries in and plug it in a wall socket, that’s it.

Extra Feature:

There are five light modes available: high, medium, low, self-defense, and SOS. The self-defense works on a pretty simple principle. While some people think that self-defense includes hitting somebody with the device, the real purpose is quite different, and it includes the blinding concept instead of physical force.

Elite Tactical Pro 300 Series Tactical Flashlight

This model is one of the most compact ones on our list. It’s only around six inches long, meaning you can fit it anywhere you want. When it comes to portability and simplicity, the Elite Tactical Pro 300 is great. The notable thing about this model is its versatility and durability.

Design:

The design is shockproof and waterproof, hence the Elite prefix in its name. It’s a perfect model for rainy days, muddy terrains, and even for emergency situations such as floods. The battery is not bad, although not much different from the others on our list. It’s durable, long-lasting, and it comes with a charger. However, if you ever lose it or can’t use it for whatever reason, there is a 3xAAA adapter to act as a substitution for the lithium ion battery.

Price:

When talking about the Elite Tactical Pro 300 Series, we cannot skip mentioning its affordable price. It’s an unusual thing because most professional tactical flashlights have a premium price. However, this one doesn’t. In fact, it costs less than $50, which is a bargain, to say the least. Therefore, if you’re on a tight budget, feel free to check this particular model out, it certainly meets your requirements.

One of the things that make this company viable is their 30-day return policy. In simpler words, you can return the unit within 30 days if you’re not satisfied with it, and you will get a full refund, no questions asked. As you might assume, it’s a good way of testing whether you like the flashlight or not.

Extra Feature:

The main trump of this particular model is its versatility. You can use it while camping, hunting, hiking, and during emergencies. The one thing you don’t have to think about is breaking it, thanks to the sturdy design it’s able to withstand quite a beating.

Simon Cree Led Flashlight Top LED Tactical Flashlight

The Simon Cree Led Flashlight is well-known for its 16 adjustable focus settings. Although many of these products seem pretty similar, this one stands out thanks to its versatility and long life. However, one notable disadvantage is the 500 Lumens of brightness, which is almost 100% less than other models on our list. On the other hand, if you think 500 Lumens is enough for your needs, this is certainly the model you should check out.

Design:

The casing is durable, sturdy, and shockproof. You don’t have to worry about dropping this unit because it’s designed to withstand severe shocks.

Battery:

A significant shortcoming is the lack of batteries. The batteries and the charger are not included in the kit, and that’s a pretty big issue. In fact, people choose not to buy this product solely because it doesn’t come with batteries and a charger included. Therefore, you will have to purchase the lithium ion battery separately. However, if you’re unable to find or afford a Li-ion battery, you can use the 3xAAA adapter. The only difference between these two battery types is the fact that Li-Ion ones last longer but are more expensive than regular ones. Make sure to buy a set of top-quality batteries if you’re planning to use the adapter.

Extra Feature:

The light modes are pretty standard. It has five different modes which include high, medium, low, strobe, and SOS patterns. The strobe mode is perfect for self-defense or if you want to get noticed. The rapid flickering works great if you need to blind someone in self-defense temporarily. The SOS mode operates on a pretty simple principle by sending an “SOS” signal using Morse code. If you’re a hunter, mechanic, or even a law enforcement officer, this model might be the thing you’re looking for.

Streamlight 75458 Stinger DS LED High Lumen Rechargeable Flashlight

Design:

The design is satisfactory. It’s a pretty standard design, so there’s not much innovation going on. It’s made from anodized aluminum with a rubber non-slip grip. As you can assume, it’s also entirely waterproof. Therefore, you can use it wherever and whenever you want without worrying about the weather conditions. It doesn’t matter if it’s raining or snowing, the Streamlight 75458 Stinger will do its job well. The impact resistance isn’t as good as with other models on our list. Although the manufacturer said that the model was tested for impact, it’s only from a 1-meter height. Therefore, it’s not the optimal sample, and most people simply don’t believe in it. In simpler words, even if it’s declared as shockproof, handle it with care because it can withstand a blow from a 1-meter height, which is borderline underwhelming.

Battery:

One of the things that people first notice about this unit is the lack of Li-Ion battery. Instead, it has a NiMH battery, which is arguably worse. While lithium batteries offer up to 100000 hours of life, these are rechargeable up to a thousand times and offer around 50000 hours of service. Other than having a different battery, this model is quite similar to the others from our list.

Extra Feature:

The notable thing about this particular device is its optimal peripheral illumination. Although the concept might sound complicated, it’s pretty simple. For example, this flashlight can blast a wide cone and illuminate around 300 meters in front of you while on high settings. If you put the size of the cone into perspective, it’s almost two and a half times longer than a football field. Therefore, it’s safe to say that you don’t have to worry about getting lost in the dark if you opt for this particular model.

How to Measure Brightness?

Most people simply don’t know how to measure brightness, or what those numbers on the box even mean. If you’re one of those people, go ahead and read this article, you’ll get a better idea of what’s behind all those numbers and specifications.

There are three ways to measure the brightness:

Light output
Beam distance
Peak Beam

The light output is measured in Lumens, and that’s the most frequent thing you’ll see in the specifications.

The beam distance is measured in meters, and the Peak Beam is the light intensity which is measured in candela. However, the most precise method is the light output.

A common misconception about Lumens is the fact that people think the more Lumens a flashlight has, the farther it will shine. However, it’s a completely wrong assumption.

The number of Lumens defines the overall brightness of the flashlight, not the possible distance it’s able to illuminate.

The manufacturers usually declare the number of Lumens without mentioning one crucial factor. It’s not the same if you measure the amount of light that comes out or the maximum output of the LED emitter. Companies usually define the maximum values, and that’s not a viable parameter. Whenever you’re buying a flashlight, always ask about the real instead of the theoretical output.

Understanding the concept of lumens, candela, and meters is crucial. As long as you follow a few simple mathematical rules, you should be able to find the suiting brightness for your needs. Bear in mind; some flashlights can be too bright for some jobs, even if it sounds unreal to some people. It goes to show that buying the brightest flashlight on the market isn’t always the best solution. In fact, it’s usually the wrong thing to do. Instead, purchase a flashlight that suits your personal needs, and you shouldn’t have a problem with brightness because most flashlights on the market are bright enough for most activities.

Our Verdict: What is the Brightest Tac Light?

Even though every single one of these units from our list is worth checking out, our recommendation is the PeakPlus Super Bright LED Tactical Flashlight. It has everything you’ll ever need in dire situations. Also, it’s well-designed, and it offers up to 100000 hours of service. Needless to say, you won’t have any issues in dark environments ever again if you opt for this particular model.

The Li-Ion battery is great, and the model comes with a 3xAAA adapter. Therefore, even if you end up losing the Li-Ion battery, you can always use the 3xAAA adapter as a temporary solution. However, buy a new lithium battery as soon as possible because it’s much better than the conventional AAA batteries.
